Area residents can expect a summerlike heat wave to hit metro Atlanta this weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach the high 80s Saturday and could soar into the 90s by Sunday afternoon.
“You’ll need to find ways to not only stay cool, but to stay safe because temperatures are going to climb,” said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.
Atlantans woke up to morning lows around 72 degrees with mostly clear skies. There’s little chance of rain for the day. The high is expected to be 88.
“For those of you planning to take the boats out on the water, I think today’s going to be a really good day to do just that,” Deon said. “We are going to keep it on the dry side. We’ll have that mix of clouds and sunshine. Don’t forget to put on your sunscreen.”
Deon said temperatures should hit 92 degrees Sunday, a day in which there’s just a 10% chance of stray showers.
She suggested dog owners take their pooches for their walks during the morning hours while the temperatures are still mild.
“It’s going to be one of those days where you’ll probably want to find some shade,” Deon said. “And probably even a better idea as you’re walking your dog is to find some grassier surfaces. Because as the air temperature heats up, the asphalt and sidewalks are going to be even hotter.”
