The yearly battle with humidity has begun, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

With rising temperatures and a daily chance at rain, Monahan said North Georgia will start to feel the mugginess typically associated with summertime. It’s arrived right on cue for the first week of May.

“The humidity came up this weekend and it’s going to be here to stay for most of this week,” Monahan said. “It’s going to be muggy, it’s going to be humid, and were going to have some rain chances pretty much every day this week.”

Monday’s chance of a shower or storm is low at 20%, and Monahan said it will be confined to the afternoon and evening hours. Moisture in the air and highs in the 80s will give the region a shot at afternoon rain each day this week, according to Channel 2.

Atlanta is starting the week warm with temperatures in the mid-60s Monday morning, making it the warmest morning so far this spring. Monahan is calling for a high of 85 degrees this afternoon.

“With the humidity building across North Georgia, temperatures are about 10 degrees above average all the way through the week,” he said. “It’s really our warmest stretch of weather so far this year, with highs in the mid- to upper 80s.”

Monahan is not expecting much rain Monday or Tuesday, but rain chances increase to about 30% Wednesday and Thursday. Friday should be the wettest day of the week with a 60% chance of showers and storms, he said.

“Friday we’re going to see some pretty widespread rain, and that will be the coolest day of the week too, as temperatures slide back to about 80 degrees,” he said.

Monday's projected high is 85 degrees.
