Friday will see another dry and sunny start before rain returns for the afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.
School may be back in session, but it is still summertime in North Georgia. Monahan said we can expect to see summertime conditions of heat, humidity and scattered storms dominate the weather pattern for a few more weeks.
“No rain to worry about for now, but later today there will be afternoon and evening storms,” Monahan said. “The pattern of afternoon showers and storms continues as we go through the weekend.”
The day is starting dry and warm with temperatures in the 60s in the mountains and mid-70s in town. While there is no rain to worry the morning commute, Monahan said it’s still a good practice to pack the umbrella in case of an afternoon or evening downpour.
The rain chance is sitting at about 40% Friday. The same is true of Saturday and Sunday, and that trend continues into next week, he said.
“We’ve got a partly cloudy sky this morning,” Monahan said. “For today, early is best for the outdoor plans.”
Atlanta is headed for a high of 91 degrees Friday afternoon, according to Channel 2. Rain chances increase after lunchtime and decrease after sunset, when temperatures begin to fall and the region loses some of the energy for storms to develop.
Monahan is expecting about nine hours of sunshine each day while this pattern holds. No day this weekend will be a washout, he said, “but by the afternoon some outdoor plans will get interrupted by some scattered storms.”
Temperatures should also hold steady. Monahan is calling for highs around 90 degrees each day through early next week.
