Atlanta is likely to record its second straight day in the 90s Friday as dry conditions and high humidity keep a firm grip on the region.
Changes are coming this weekend which could bring much wetter and cooler weather, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. At least for Friday, and most of Saturday, Monahan said conditions are ideal for any summertime activities you may have planned.
“It’s going to be a hot afternoon. Yesterday was our first 90-degree day in Atlanta, and we do it a second day in a row today,” he said. “Your Friday is going to be dry. Most of our week has been dry, but that story is going to change as we go into the weekend.”
Monahan said dry air that has been keeping rain away from North Georgia will shift over the weekend, allowing more moisture from the Gulf of Mexico to flow into the region. While there is a 30% chance of a shower or storm Saturday, it will still be the best day this weekend to get outside, he said.
More widespread storms arrive Sunday, with a 60% chance of rain and more clouds than sunshine for the afternoon, according to the latest forecast. Sunday’s projected high is 85 degrees.
“Some good chances for rain and storms Sunday, that continues Monday and Tuesday and brings our temperature down,” Monahan said. “Nineties today, we’ll be in the 70s Monday and Tuesday.”
Monahan is calling for a high of 90 degrees Friday in Atlanta, which is eight degrees above average for this time of year. It’s already warm Friday morning with widespread lows in the 70s.
