There is a new contender in the mix at starting quarterback for LSU.Junior Anthony Jennings, who was reinstated by head coach Les Miles on Friday, will join sophomore Brandon Harris in determining who will start at quarterback for the Tigers this fall.
Jennings, a former Marietta, Ga., standout, and teammates Maquedius Bain (defensive tackle) and (defensive back) Dwayne Thomas were reinstated on Friday after the three were indefinitely suspended following a June incident. They will all be available for the start of camp on Aug. 6.
Miles levied suspensions against each player after they were accused of breaking into an on-campus apartment. Per an ESPN report, Jennings reported that some personal items, including a Macbook Air laptop, among other things, had been stolen from his apartment. On June 12, Jennings, along with Thomas and Bain, were accused of forcing their way into the apartment that they believed the items to be, per the report. They were arrested on felony charges at that time, per reports.
There were plenty of question marks surrounding LSU’s quarterback competition when news broke of Jennings’ alleged involvement back in June, and they still remain. Last year, the Tigers ranked last in the SEC in passing offense, and both Harris and Jennings combined for just 17 passing touchdowns.
Jennings’ presence is certain to make a difference, but will it be enough to remedy LSU’s most recent woes?
