Nation’s No. 1 athlete, Demetris Robertson of Savannah at Dawg Night (Randy Schafer/Special for AJC)
The nation’s No. 1-rated athlete has a new order of favorite colleges after attending UGA’s Dawg Night prospect camp over the weekend.
Demetris Robertson, a 5-star from Savannah, told the AJC on Sunday night that Stanford is his leader, followed by UGA and Alabama tied for second.
Even though UGA is still not the top school for Robertson, it’s a big move up for the Bulldogs. Earlier this month at The Opening, Robertson named Stanford and Alabama as his co-leaders, with UGA sitting back at No. 3.
How did UGA gain ground? There are a couple of reasons: For starters, Robertson said Dawg Night 2015 was his best visit yet to Athens due to the collection of talent and electrifying atmosphere at camp.
“Yes sir, no doubt, best visit yet,” he said.
And then there's the Jacob Eason factor: Catching passes from the nation's No. 1-rated quarterback might be the No. 1 thing in UGA's favor with Robertson. At least it was the main selling point from Bulldogs coach Mark Richt this weekend.
“Coach Richt just told me he needed that matching piece with Jacob that can stretch the field vertically, and I top that list,” Robertson said.
