Nation’s No. 1 ILB spotted at UGA (StudentSports.com file)
There are always surprises at UGA’s Dawg Night with kids showing up who are committed to other schools.
There was a big surprise on Saturday morning.
The nation’s No. 1-rated inside linebacker was spotted at the early session of Dawg Night at Sanford Stadium.
Rahshaun Smith is a 4-star from Florida's IMG Academy who committed to Clemson last March.
Smith wasn’t working out at Dawg Night, at least at the early session. He was spotted talking with UGA linebackers coach Mike Ekeler, along with current Bulldogs outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter.
It was unknown whether Smith would participate in the night session, or if he was simply riding along with his IMG teammates who were there to work out (recruits can’t be interviewed on campus, per NCAA rules).
Nevertheless, at least for UGA, it’s never a bad thing when the No. 1 inside linebacker in the nation shows up at your place, whatever the circumstances are.
Smith was one of at least a dozen kids committed to other schools who will be at Dawg Night.
Later today, UGA is expecting a visit from another highly-touted inside linebacker, Jaleel Laguins of Oconee County High School. There are rumors swirling that Laguins will commit to UGA at tonight's Dawg Night, despite the fact that he told the AJC around 10 days ago that he would wait until early August.
Check back for updates.
