After NCAA officials traveled to Oxford, Miss. to speak with Laremy Tunsil's stepfather, Lindsey Miller, about allegations of multiple rules violations by the Ole Miss football program, the university announced on Monday that it launched its own investigation into the matter.
“The University of Mississippi Department of Athletics is aware of the allegations made by Laremy Tunsil’s stepfather regarding potential NCAA violations involving Laremy,” read a statement released by Ole Miss sports information director Kyle Campbell Monday afternoon. “As we do with any allegation, we initiated an internal investigation last week and have offered the NCAA our full cooperation.
“We take the obligations to the NCAA and SEC very seriously, and we will continue to educate, monitor and enforce all applicable rules. All other reports are speculation until the process is complete.”
Over a week ago, Tunsil and his stepfather got into an altercation, which ended up with the Ole Miss star left tackle getting charged with domestic assault. Miller said the altercation began after telling his stepson to stay away from agents. Miller has reportedly stated that Tunsil accepted improper benefits.
Tunsil is a projected first-round pick in next year’s NFL draft. He was a five-star recruit who broke the hearts of UGA’s coaches after telling them shortly before 2013’s signing day that he was going to Ole Miss over the heavily-favored Bulldogs.
