Remember Larry Tunsil? He was the 5-star who broke the hearts of UGA’s coaches after telling them shortly before 2013’s signing day that he was going to Ole Miss over the heavily-favored Bulldogs.
Tunsil, who has blossomed into a top NFL prospect, has attracted the attention of NCAA.
NCAA investigators traveled to Oxford, Miss. on Friday to speak with Tunsil's stepfather about allegations of multiple rules violations by the Ole Miss football program, according to the Clarion-Ledger.
One week ago, Tunsil and his stepfather, Lindsey Miller, got into an altercation, which ended up with the Ole Miss offensive lineman getting charged with domestic assault. Tunsil allegedly punched his stepfather in the face.
Miller is now saying that the fight started when he warned his stepson to stay away from agents. NCAA rules allow college athletes to speak with agents but gifts cannot be accepted. Reportedly, Miller says Tunsil’s contact with agents goes beyond just meeting them and includes improper benefits.
Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze released a statement earlier this week in support of his star player.
“We are aware that Laremy and his family have met with potential agents, which is within his NCAA rights as a student-athlete,” Freeze said. “Regarding the altercation, we will continue to gather facts and cooperate with the proper authorities.”
Tunsil is a projected first-round pick in next year’s NFL draft.
