The University of Miami is bringing in an emerging QB prospect out of Georgia on an official visit.
And UGA has showed some interest, too.
Evan Shirreffs is a 6-foot-6, 200-pound senior from Jefferson High School who is showing up on the recruiting radar, less than three weeks away from signing day.

Shirreffs got a late start to his recruiting because he sat on the bench at Jefferson behind his brother until last year, and then only played four games as junior after breaking his thumb. His brother is former N.C. State quarterback Jordan Shirreffs, who will compete for the starting job at UConn next season.
Shirreffs, who has a 4.0 GPA and 32 ACT score, finally started getting some attention after putting up big stats as a senior this season (39 touchdown passes to 4 interceptions). He also won MVP at the Georgia-Florida all-star game a couple of weeks ago.
“Miami wasn’t at the game, but word got out about Evan,” Jefferson coach Ben Hall told the AJC. “Miami had a kid de-commit from them, and I think they had two kids transfer out of the program. I think they might have been in ‘scramble mode,’ and they found about Evan.
“Evan has a tremendous upside. He’s 6-6 and 200 pounds. He throws the ball very well, and his brother is obviously a Div. I player. They contacted him, and he’s going to visit a week after next week.”
UGA has also been flirting a little bit, although it appears that the Bulldogs won’t be taking a quarterback on scholarship in this year’s class. Shirreffs said communicated with UGA’s new director of player personnel, Todd Hartley, over Twitter this week.
“He said he showed my film to Coach Schottenheimer, and he liked it,” Shirreffs said. “So they like my film, but I don’t know where that will lead because they’ve said they’re not going to offer a 2015 quarterback. I don’t really know where things stand.”

Since Shirreffs has such super grades and could basically attend any school (including Ivy League schools) on academic scholarship, would he consider walking on at UGA? “I haven’t really thought about that,” he said. “I don’t know. It would be a tough decision. I will leave it at that. I’ll leave that unanswered.
For now, Shirreffs is examining his options, which seem to growing by the day. He’ll take an official visit to Georgetown this Friday, and then heads to Miami the following week. He feels good about the chances of the Hurricanes extending a scholarship offer.
“We’ve been talking pretty seriously, and I think they (Miami) could offer,” he said. “They told me that I fit into their system. It’s a pro-style offense similar to what we run at Jefferson. They told me that I was capable of running their system.”
Shirreffs’ coach is not surprised by all of the sudden interest. He thinks his prized quarterback could play at the highest levels of college football.
“Evan is one of those kids that’s a late-bloomer,” Hall said. “He has grown six inches in the last two and a half years. He’s a kid that is still maturing. He has tremendous upside. He’s getting stronger and filling out physically. Last year, he was 6-4 and 170 pounds. Now he’s 6-6 and 200 pounds. And he’s still growing. I think some people see that.
“Evan, he played four games for us last year. He broke his thumb, and he was out for the rest of the year. He did the Elite 11, and he did the camps and the combines last spring and summer. I think some people were probably standoffish because the kid had only played four games at the AA level.
“Then he had a tremendous year for us this year, throwing for 2,000 yards. So he has put himself in a good position. He’s a great kid and a great student. He’s ranked No. 1 in his class, and has a 32 ACT. He’s an Ivy League student, and his goal was always to go to an Ivy League school. He has some opportunities now where he may be able to play at an FBS school, and he’s going to take advantage of it if he can.”
