Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns summed up this weekend’s weather in North Georgia quite succinctly.
“If you like cool weather, you’re going to love this weekend,” he said. “If you like warm weather ... it’ll be 87 degrees in Atlanta (next Friday).”
Some Atlantans might have to wait a few days for weather closer to their liking, but Saturday’s cool temperatures also kick off a dry spell. So there’s silver linings for everyone.
Temperatures in Atlanta started off in the low 40s this morning, but things will warm into the mid-50s by noon and the mid-60s this afternoon. The projected high is 64 degrees, which is 14 degrees below average for this time of year.
“It’s a beautiful start to the day, but you’ll definitely want to put on the extra layers if you’re stepping outside,” Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said. “You will need it.”
If those morning temperatures seem low, it's even colder in the North Georgia mountains. Five counties started Saturday under a freeze warning, according to the National Weather Service.

With no rain in the forecast, construction crews should be unimpeded all weekend, and the Georgia Department of Transportation has plenty of roadwork projects planned around metro Atlanta.
A right northbound lane of I-75 will be blocked at Deering Road from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, GDOT said. Not too far away, a right lane of I-285 South will be closed at I-75 from 7 a.m. until noon.
On I-20, a westbound lane will be blocked at Panola Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, GDOT said. Gwinnett County drivers will also want to be aware of rolling closures on Ga. 316 East at I-85 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday will start off just as cool as Saturday in Atlanta, but it’ll warm into the low 70s, according to the latest forecast. Temperatures are expected to reach the 80s by Wednesday.
