The seasons are changing in Georgia, and Atlanta’s warmest months are right on the horizon.
Get ready for summer.
“Summer officially begins at 5:44 p.m., so you’ll wake up in the spring and go to bed in the summer,” Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
Spring will have its last influence on Georgia’s weather this morning, with temperatures starting off in the mid-60s, just a few degrees cooler than seasonal norms, Burns said.
However, temperatures will quickly rise into the upper 80s, with the city topping out at a projected 88 degrees, according to the latest forecast. Atlanta also has a 20% chance of rain, so there won’t be many clouds impeding the sun as summer approaches.
With it being Father's Day weekend, traffic on the interstates is also expected to heat up, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. In conjunction with routine construction projects, this weekend's traffic is expected to be more congested than the past few weekends.

As part of the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange project, a right westbound lane of Abernathy Road will be blocked between Glenlake Parkway and Ga. 400 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Two left lanes of I-285 South will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and South Cobb Parkway from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, GDOT said. If you have late-night travel plans, also keep in mind that there are several overnight closures planned across the metro area.
Sunday’s weather will not be too different from Saturday’s, with Atlanta starting off in the upper 60s and warming to nearly 90 degrees.

However, rain chances will go up after Father’s Day, setting the stage for several wet weekdays.
