There will be plenty of sun Saturday, Sunday and next week — perhaps too much — but Atlantans likely won’t complain after the last few dour and rainy weekends.
Friday peaked at 88 degrees, which is the hottest Atlanta has been so far this year. The next few days, temperatures should only get warmer, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
“Very warm air is developing across the desert southwest and the central plains, and it’s going to move to the east,” Burns said. “By Sunday, prepare for the low 90s for much of northern Georgia.”

The city likely won’t reach 90 degrees until Tuesday, but it should come close. The expected high is 88 degrees for Saturday and 89 for Sunday.
“Hot might be an understatement for the next several days because we are really going to be sweating it out,” Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said. “Make sure that AC is in working order. You will need it.”
Overall, Saturday’s heat should be tempered by a few isolated showers, which won’t arrive until about 2 or 3 p.m., Deon said.
The conditions won’t be a washout by any means, and nowhere in North Georgia should see more than a half-inch of rain through Sunday evening.

The stray storms should taper off by this evening, leaving a dry forecast for tonight’s Braves game against the Milwaukee Brewers at SunTrust Park at 7:15 p.m. The last game in the series, which begins at 1:20 p.m. tomorrow, should also be dry.
In addition to an uptick in Smyrna traffic near game time, the I-75 express lanes in Cobb County will be blocked until 11 a.m. for roadwork, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The next week could potentially be historically sweltering. Burns said Wednesday could reach record-high temperatures in Atlanta, which may result in very high air pollution levels.
