Georgia’s short — but much-needed — dry spell will continue for one more day, kicking off the weekend in typical June fashion.

In fact, the projected temperatures for Atlanta on Saturday are within a degree of seasonal averages, according to Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns. The morning low is 66 in Atlanta, while the afternoon high is 85.

He said the 20-degree temperature flux will be made easy by the dry air moving through Georgia.

“The air cools very efficiently at night with dry air, but it warms up in a hurry during the day,” Burns said. “We’re looking against at a high in the mid-80s.”

Coupled with no rain in the forecast, Burns said it should be a “beautiful” Saturday afternoon in metro Atlanta.

With Gov. Brian Kemp lifting the shelter-in-place order for most residents older than 65, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center expects volume on the roads to pick up this weekend.

Construction crews will also be busy, so there will be a few slow spots to avoid, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Two right lanes of I-285 South will be blocked near the Cobb-Fulton county line from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday, GDOT said. There will also be rolling lane closures along I-285 West near Ashford Dunwoody Parkway from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Along I-75 North in Atlanta, there will also be lane closures at Deering Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and near Mt. Paran Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., GDOT said.

Sunday’s forecast will be nearly identical to the one for Saturday, with the exception of a 20% chance of rain.

“We have a little bit of a weather disturbance creeping in from the northwest, and that could increase the showers in far northern Georgia,” Burns said.

The rain chance will only increase Monday, while temperatures will slowly drop a few degrees. Tuesday may not escape the 70s, but rain should roll out of Georgia by Wednesday, bringing temperatures back into the 80s, according to the latest forecast.
