After more than a month without measurable precipitation, wet weather is finally on the way this week, Channel 2 Action News meteorologists say.

“It has been 41 days without measurable rain in Atlanta,” meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

After a mostly sunny day on Sunday, a series of systems is expected to bring rain, Monahan said.

The much needed rain isn’t expected until Tuesday, but the clouds coming in are expected to thicken.

“It’s going to be a wet week,” Monahan said. Forecasters say several inches of rain is possible this week.

As of Sunday, the Atlanta area was 13 inches below normal rainfall for the year. The area's lakes are feeling the effects, with Lanier 11.5 feet below full pool, and Allatoona 7.5 feet below full.

Monday will be mostly cloudy and warmer with a high in the upper 60s and a chance of isolated showers after sunset, Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said.
