After a relatively dry July Fourth holiday weekend, wet weather is making a big comeback in metro Atlanta.

Monday — and several of the days that follow — will be rainy and stormy, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

“It’ll be a show in the sky today, tomorrow and Wednesday,” he said.

High temperatures in the mid-80s are in the forecast Monday. That’s welcome relief after the weekend brought 90-degree temperatures.

The morning is off to a relatively dry start.

Right now, there are clear skies over Atlanta and humidity is at 84%.

“It’s not going to stay that way all morning though,” Monahan said. Rain chances are expected to increase in the late morning and through the afternoon, he said.

The wet trend is expected to continue throughout the week and into the weekend, according to Monahan. Rain chances currently stand at 60% Monday and Wednesday, 80% Tuesday and 40% Thursday and and Friday, according to Channel 2.

“If you are leaving the house, make sure that you have that umbrella with you,” Monahan said. “There will be several times where you might need it.”

As for traffic, things are moving smoothly through the metro with only a few trouble spots, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Only one left lane of Ga. 400 South near Mansell Road is open after a crash involving a tractor-trailer jackknifed, the Traffic Center reported. The ride on Ga. 400 South from Old Milton Parkway to I-285 is a slow 43 minutes at 6:30 a.m., traffic reporter Mark Arum said.

A crash has lanes blocked on Flat Shoals and Candler roads in DeKalb County, according to the Traffic Center. The incident is causing slowdowns for drivers in the area.
