North Georgia is continuing its stretch of nice weather Monday with dry conditions and afternoon highs in the upper 60s in the forecast.

The start of the work week will be more or less the same as the weekend, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. It could be the last dry day this week, however.

“Monday is going to be four dry days in a row,” Monahan said. “I wish I could make it a fifth. I can’t do that, but I can give you a nice Monday across North Georgia.”

The day will start under lots of sunshine, but it’s chilly out there. Morning lows are in the 30s and 40s, but all of North Georgia will make it to the 60s later Monday, according to Channel 2.

Monahan said a steady warmup is on the way with the help of a pleasant breeze.

“At lunchtime, we're at 58 on our way into the upper 60s in some neighborhoods later this afternoon,” he said. “It will be a nice, warm Monday.”

Atlanta should reach a projected high of 66 degrees as clouds fill in later this afternoon. By the evening, Monahan said the sky will turn mostly cloudy. It stays dry through Monday night, but he said some light rain showers will be moving in for the Tuesday morning drive.

“This is not going to be the heavy, soaking rain we've seen over the last several weeks, but some light showers are around first thing tomorrow morning,” he said.

The rain is expected to reach metro Atlanta by the late morning and early afternoon hours. A weakening cold front is moving in, giving the city a 40% opportunity for rain throughout the day Tuesday, according to Channel 2.

“Southside, you won’t see much though,” Monahan said. “You'll stay pretty dry tomorrow. We all get chances of rain over the next few days, but it’s not that real heavy stuff.”

He said there is also a chance for a rumble of thunder each day Tuesday through Friday. Despite the rain chances, Atlanta should stay warm through the week.

“We'll go from the 60s today into the low 70s Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” Monahan said. “It does get a little cooler for the weekend.”

Not that much cooler. Morning lows in the 50s and afternoon highs in the 60s are in the forecast for both weekend days, according to Channel 2.

Pavement may be dry across metro Atlanta, but traffic is already slow to start the Monday morning rush, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

An earlier outbound crash on I-85 was causing big delays south of Jimmy Carter Boulevard before it was moved to a shoulder just before 6 a.m. All lanes are now open, the Traffic Center reported.

“Traffic is still a little slow heading north from Spaghetti Junction, but it is not impacting your southbound ride in from Lawrenceville,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said.

MARTA riders may also experience delays Monday. A routing issue near the King Memorial transfer station is impacting eastbound and westbound trains, according to the transit agency.

There are “extensive delays,” MARTA officials said on Twitter. Technicians are on site troubleshooting the issue.
