Winds nearly reached speeds of 30 mph Thursday afternoon, and a tree came down on a car in northwest Atlanta, trapping two people inside.

Gusty winds have caused damage and brought down power lines across metro Atlanta all week. Wednesday night, a tree fell and crushed the front porch, chimney and a bedroom of a home in southeast Atlanta on Wilbur Avenue. No one was hurt.

Homeowner Tony Brown said he usually smokes on the porch, but was working in his office in the back of the home when the tree fell.

“Before you knew it,” he said, “the whole house was shaking.”

A wind advisory went into effect 8 a.m. Thursday and is set to expire at 11 p.m.

Shortly before 5 p.m., heavy rain started falling in DeKalb County, near Stone Mountain and moving toward Lithonia, meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Though weather through Thursday night was expected to stay breezy and cool, Channel 2’s chief meteorologist, Glenn Burns, said to expect a warming trend heading into the weekend.

Breezy conditions are expected to return Friday, when metro Atlanta is expected to wake up to temperatures in the upper 40s. A warming trend is expected to push temperatures into the 80s this weekend.

Temperatures were 67 degrees in Atlanta, 48 degrees in Blairsville and 65 degrees in Griffin just before 5 p.m.

The pollen count was 76 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Thursday. That's well below the current season high of 4,107 and last year's season high of 6,152.
