Don’t let the sunshine fool you, metro Atlanta.
It may be pretty outside, but it's windy and cold. After last week's record-breaking warmth, a frost advisory and freeze warning have been issued for parts of the metro area, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.
The freeze warning, which includes south Fulton County, goes into effect at midnight and continues through 10 a.m. Tuesday. The north Georgia mountain counties as well as areas west of metro Atlanta are part of that warning.
The mountain counties were also under a winter weather advisory that goes into effect at the same time as the freeze warning.
Freezing temps could damage tender plants in areas north of Atlanta including Blairsville, Clayton and Dawsonville. Areas that experienced overnight precipitation could also see some freezing and black ice. Spots in Union County have already seen less than 1 inch of snow.
Cold will linger across the north Georgia mountains as a weather system comes through and moves out of the area.
Temperatures were 57 degrees in Atlanta, 48 degrees in Blairsville and 57 degrees in Griffin just after 6:30 p.m.
With colder temperatures, the area's pollen count dropped some but still fell in an extreme range after several days of similarly high pollen.
Monday's count was 1,590 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air — following the highest pollen count of the season so far Saturday at 2,890 particles. However, that's still less than last year's season high of 6,152 on April 9.
Monday’s high will be 56 degrees, and temperatures will start an upward climb Tuesday. Highs will jump to 70 degrees Wednesday and linger there Thursday, also when there is a 60 percent chance of rain in metro Atlanta.
