Wet weather could make for a messy evening commute, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Parts of metro Atlanta picked up light showers in the afternoon.

Those showers are expected to become more widespread and even produce heavy downpours, lightning and gusty winds by 4 p.m.

“And that will be the case even into and through the evening hours,” meteorologist Brad Nitz said. “We’ll have periods of at least some isolated showers and storms late this evening as we look towards 11 o’clock.”

A woman sustained minor injuries early Wednesday when lightning sent parts of a tree crashing into two homes in the North Decatur Road area of DeKalb County.

There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms through Friday.

Temperatures were 92 degrees in Atlanta, 82 degrees in Blairsville and 93 degrees in Griffin just before 7 p.m.

That’s the 64th time temperatures have been in the 90s this year.

Metro Atlanta should get a break from the 90-degree highs starting Friday, Channel 2 reported.

According to the latest forecast, temperatures are expected to reach 89 degrees Friday, 87 degrees Saturday and 88 degrees Sunday.
