Dry, cool air will remain across North Georgia Wednesday evening and into Thursday.
Channel 2 Action News Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns says the metro will wake up to temperatures in the low 40s Thursday morning, and areas throughout and around the North Georgia mountains will see lows in the high 30s.
A frost advisory has been issued for Fannin, Union, Towns, Lumpkin and White counties that goes into effect at 1 a.m. Thursday, until 9 a.m., Burns said.
The biggest impacts include damaging frost to unprotected plants.
It’s currently 49 degrees in Atlanta, and the temps are headed down.
The average high for this time of year is 70.
Thursday’s wakeup weather is projected to bring low 40s to upper 30s, with Atlanta at 43 and Blairsville the coldest spot in North Georgia at 33.
The expected high Thursday is 68 degrees with lighter winds than we experienced Wednesday.
“We’ll see lots of sunshine but a big warmup by noontime,” Burns said.
Temps will rise to the mid-to-upper 60s by the afternoon commute. Temps will fall back to the upper 50s by the late evening Thursday.
“Pretty typical temperatures for this time of year,” Burns said. “We're going to see some big changes by the weekend.”

And the roller-coaster weather will continue.
The forecast for Friday’s high is in the 70s, followed by a 100 percent chance of rain Saturday, when arctic air could cause some showers ahead of a cold front.
“Saturday’s going to be a rainy day, and temperatures throughout the day are going to be falling as that cold arctic air spills into northern Georgia,” Burns said.
After the rain moves out, it will remain cold, with a high around 54 degrees. Temps will warm again come Monday.
