Atlanta temperatures were just a few degrees from the expected high of 82 Tuesday afternoon, as rain made an appearance in the north metro area.

That trend of light rain and higher temperatures will continue for the rest of the week, thanks to a high pressure system off the East Coast.

That system pulled moisture into Atlanta from the Gulf of Mexico early Tuesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Although Atlanta won’t see severe weather, the Plains states are prepping for it.

A severe weather alert could bring hail and tornadoes Tuesday from Nebraska to Texas.

“So we’ve got that Gulf feed coming in and a weather system to the north, and that’s going to cause havoc up toward those areas,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Disturbances produced only isolated showers in north metro Atlanta, before tapering off.

South of I-20 toward Upton County probably won’t see rain, Minton said.

There is a chance of rain every day through Saturday, but the best chance for storms is Thursday morning and afternoon.

Showers won’t lower temperatures, however.

Temperatures were 74 degrees in Atlanta, 68 in Blairsville and 67 in Griffin just before 10 p.m.

The 80-degree weather average is expected to last through Saturday.

The pollen count, which fluctuated last week, dropped to 177 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Tuesday. That's well below the current season high of 4,107 and last year's season high of 6,152.
