Atlanta weather | Showers move through northern counties

Most of metro Atlanta should dodge severe storms, but not rain Tuesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Isolated afternoon showers moved through north Fulton and Cobb counties following heavy downpours, power outages and storm damage the last few days.

Rain poured in so heavily, it washed out a section of a westbound lane of Ga. 108 and caused it to collapse just before Knox Bridge Highway early Tuesday, according to the Cherokee sheriff's office.

Crews have since repaired the road.

A cold front sagging into the area is expected to help trigger showers and storms later in some of metro Atlanta’s northern counties. Winds could get up to 20 mph.

“And then we’ve got our very fast moving clipper system that later this week will bring another chance of some rain in,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

In the meantime, counties east and south of Atlanta, including Clarke, Putnam and Spalding, face a marginal risk of strong to severe storms that could bring strong wind, hail and lightning. Middle Georgia could also see strong or possibly severe storms.

Temperatures were 76 degrees in Atlanta, 65 degrees in Blairsville and 72 degrees in Griffin just before 2 p.m.

The pollen count was 151 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Tuesday. That's well below the current season high of 4,107 and last year's season high of 6,152.
