Partly cloudy skies replaced early week sunshine Thursday.

But above-average highs lingered and will continue to grace metro Atlanta with spring-like weather through the weekend.

High pressure has pushed back a slight chance of showers until later Thursday evening.

“So here’s the situation: Warm air’s coming in. It’s been pretty breezy during the day, some gusts up to 20/21 miles an hour during the afternoon,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said. “Toward evening, showers are trying to come in, but it doesn’t really hold together very well.

“So there could be that little isolated sprinkle, but it’s not going to hold on, and it just kind of fizzles.”

Temperatures will climb to 77 degrees by 4 p.m. and drop a bit to 74 degrees by 7 p.m.

The temperature was 74 degrees in Atlanta just before 2 p.m.

Clouds will remain through Friday, and so will near 80-degree highs.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain Friday and Saturday. But the best chance of storms is Sunday, when there is a 60 percent chance of precipitation, Minton said.
