The overcast skies and light rain in the metro Atlanta area Sunday evening are just a hint of things to come. Heavy rain is expected to move into the area Sunday night and continue through the Monday morning commute. A flood watch has been issued.

OK until later: The heavy downpours should begin to fall around 11 p.m. Sunday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. There is a risk of thunderstorms. The rain is expected to continue overnight.

Stay alert: The National Weather Service expanded a flood watch, which now includes all of metro Atlanta. The watch, which covers most of north and portions of central Georgia, remains in effect from 8 p.m. Sunday through late Monday. Rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches are possible.

Back to work: "Plan for a wet and likely slow Monday morning commute," Nitz said. There is a 100 percent chance of rain.

Pollen: Sunday morning's pollen count was 1,245 particles per cubic meter of air, down from Saturday's 2,307.

Temps: Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s through Tuesday. Lows will be in the mid 50s Monday before dropping to the upper 40s Tuesday.
