Would you stay at America’s most dangerous vacation rental?

About 35 miles off the North Carolina coast is America’s most dangerous rental — a former oil rig turned research station.

While most vacation rentals allow you to access the property via gate code or key, this one requires guests to strap into a bosun chair and get pulled up to the 135-foot platform.

The “Frying Pan Tower” is a one-of-a-kind eco-tourism adventure available at $1,500 a person. Resting in what feels like the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the rig has plenty of games on deck, family-style dining and more.

Guests can enjoy fishing off the tower, corn hole, snorkeling, scuba diving, biodegradable clay skeet-shooting and more.

“When the winds, waves, and ripping currents allow, ride the hoist down to the sea and swim in the aquarium of life below within schools of gloriously colored bait fish, patrolled by razor toothed barracuda and watched by sand tiger sharks beneath” said the website.

The tower prides itself on looking out for the safety of mariners and scientists, who typically stay there for research and studies on the ecosystem, but the Frying Pan experience is now open to ordinary visitors.

Here are a few additional details:

The tower is predominately staffed by volunteers. To book your eco-tourism trip visit fptower.org.
