That initial amount was discovered when web developer Kevin Burke sent a Freedom of Information Act request for information on the TSA randomizer.

Eight months later, he got documents that said one transaction was $336,413.59.

Those documents contained a contract between TSA and IBM, in which IBM ultimately won a bid to create the randomizer iPad app.

Popular Mechanics reported that the total cost of the project was $1.4 million, although it is not clear what exactly makes up that amount. The TSA randomizer app is part of that total.
