Princess Cruises will welcome two new ships in 2019 and 2020, the cruise line announced last week.
The two 3,560-passenger vessels will be the latest additions to the line’s Royal class of vessels, which includes the Royal Princess, Regal Princess and the China-bound Majestic Princess.
The California-based operator, part of Doral’s Carnival Corp., reached an agreement with Italian shipyard Fincantieri to build the new ships.
Carnival Corp., which also includes Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line, Seabourn, AIDA Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard, P&O Cruises, P&O Cruises Australia and Fathom, also finalized agreements for three other vessels to be built at Fincantieri: two China-bound ships for its Costa Asia line and a ship for P&O Cruises Australia. The new ships are also scheduled for delivery in 2019 and 2020.
Carnival Corp. has a total of 16 new vessels scheduled to set sail by 2020.
Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises, said the new additions contribute to Princess’ commitment of growing globally. The line has not released itinerary information for the new ships.
The new vessels will follow the model of their Royal-class predecessors and feature multiple dining, entertainment and retail venues and an outdoor theater experience. About 80 percent of staterooms will have balconies.
The 143,700-ton ships will bring Princess’ total ship count to 20. The line sails to 360 destinations around the globe on more than 150 itineraries.
