If you’re breaking up with your significant other, how can you stay active on Facebook without keeping the heartbreak alive?
You could always unfriend the ex, but that's so… gauche.
So starting Thursday, Facebook began offering users who change their relationship status some new tools for controlling the social experience going forward.
"We are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended. When people change their relationship status to indicate they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools," Facebook product manager Kelly Winters says.
The app gives the user opportunities to remove the ex's posts from their newsfeed, limit the status updates they see from the ex, and even untag the ex in previous posts and photos.
“This work is part of our ongoing effort to develop resources for people who may be going through difficult moments in their lives. We hope these tools will help people end relationships on Facebook with greater ease, comfort and sense of control,” Winters said.
And if you break up, then make up, then what? Maybe there’s an off-and-on app in the works.
