Stan Awtrey has been covering sports for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1977. He currently writes about high school sports, Georgia State University athletics and golf. He has been executive director of the Georgia Sports Writers Association since 1995 and is a four-time winner of the organization’s Sweepstakes Award for best story. He is a member of the Golf Writers Association of America, has covered all four grand slam events – the Masters, U.S. Open, PGA Championship and Mitsubishi Electric Classic – and believes there’s no place on earth better than Augusta National.
