Leonard Pope knows what it's like to be a football hero.

Now a mother and her child are calling him a real hero.

According to a report in the Americus Times-Recorder, Pope, a tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs, saved a 6-year-old from drowning Saturday.

Bryson Moore went under in a pool while at a cousin's party Saturday evening, and his mother, Anne, started screaming, the newspaper said.

"[Leonard] came out of nowhere and dove into the water without any hesitation, cell phone in his pocket and all. He saved my son’s life, and I am so thankful that he was there for me and my child,” Anne Moore told the Times-Recorder.

Pope, who is from Americus and played college football at the University of Georgia, shared his side of the story on "NFL's Total Access" on Monday, according to NFL.com.

"I brought him back up, I handed him to his mom, patted him on the back, he coughed a couple times," Pope said, "But he was pretty good for the rest of the day."
