For the 10th time in 11 years, the Georgia Bulldogs claimed the state’s college-football bragging rights.

Georgia defeated rival Georgia Tech 31-17 on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Dodd Stadium, keeping intact the Bulldogs’ record of having lost only once to the Yellow Jackets under coach Mark Richt.

Georgia, which got four touchdown passes from quarterback Aaron Murray, led 17-10 at halftime, extended its cushion to 31-10 in the third quarter and ended the regular season on a 10-game winning streak. Next up for the 10-2 Bulldogs: the SEC championship game at the Georgia Dome against No. 1 LSU.

“I’m just real pleased with what’s going on right now,” said Richt, who added that he tempered his celebration of the victory over Tech because of sore ribs from an over-exuberant locker-room celebration of the previous week’s SEC East-clinching win.

For Tech, the loss was its third in a row to Georgia since a 2008 victory broke a seven-game Jackets drought. Georgia has won 17 of the past 21 games in the series.

“We’re tired of being the little brothers in the state,” Tech linebacker Julian Burnett said.

The Jackets completed their regular season with an 8-4 record and now await word of their bowl destination.
