The Georgia Swarm lost 16-15 in their National Lacrosse League debut against the Colorado Mammoth in Denver on Friday night.

The Swarm trailed most of the game and took a 14-13 lead for the first time in the fourth quarter before the teams swapped goals and scoring chances. John Grant Jr. scored the game-winner for the Mammoth.

“We did some things well, and the things we made mistakes on are fully correctable, and that was the message that we told the guys,” Swarm coach Ed Comeau said in a news release. “We’ll learn from this, and have an opportunity next weekend at home to get back in the win column.”

Lyle Thompson and Randy Staats both had hat tricks, and Staats had a team-high seven points. Johnny Powless scored the Swarm’s first goal in team history in the first quarter and had six points.

The Swarm will host its inaugural home opener at Infinite Energy Arena at 7:05 p.m. Jan. 9 against the Toronto Rock.
