If you are one of the 60,000 who will participate in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, here are some training tips provided by Atlanta Track Club and Reebok Training spokeswoman, Carrie Tollefson.

Here are guidelines to consider when it is the day of the race.

Race-day tips

Do not try anything new on race morning, such as clothes, shoes or food.

Don’t overeat, but always make sure to put something in your stomach.

Lay out your race-day clothes, shoes, race number and safety pins the night before the race.

Garbage bags are great throw-away rain jackets if it is raining.

Keep your body cool

Wear light-colored clothes.

Pour water over your head or down the back of your neck right before you start the run.

Stand in the shade, place some ice or cold beverage on your forehead.

Be sure to stop at hydration stations

Water stations will be located around the start area and along the course. Be sure to take advantage of the water stations that are locations at miles 1 through 5 on the course.

Make a race-day plan with family and friends

Have a race-day plan: where to meet your friends, family, money or Breeze card for MARTA.

Arrive early and look over the start-wave map.

Get to the start line at least an hour before your start wave begins.

When you reach 10th Street and Peachtree, you have approximately half a mile to go.
