The $ 275,000 that the Georgia Tech Athletic Association will receive from Atlanta United for locker-room accommodations will likely go toward cosmetic changes, Yellow Jackets football coach Paul Johnson said on Tuesday.
Those changes include paint and carpet. Johnson said he’s not sure a complete renovation can be done for the amount the GTAA will receive.
The money is supposed to be received on or before March 1, 2017, according to a copy of the contract. Johnson said he didn’t know when the renovations might begin.
Atlanta United could occupy a portion of the home locker room on the north side of stadium until the end of July, according to the possible dates of use included in the contract. Visiting teams will use the locker room in the south end of the stadium.
Atlanta United will use Bobby Dodd Stadium until the construction of Mercedes-Benz Stadium is complete. The MLS season will start in March.
Johnson has expressed a desire for the locker rooms to be updated or renovated as a tool to help the players and recruiting. He said a new locker room was supposed to be built 3-4 years ago.
