The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League have reached out to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's agent, according to a report by Pro Football Talk.

Neither Kaepernick nor his agent replied to the Alouettes because Kaepernick is not interested in playing Canadian football, according to PFT.

After he began taking a knee last season during the the national anthem to protest police brutality and social injustice, Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers in March and has not signed with another team.

Alouettes general manager and interim head coach Kavis Reed said the team is mostly interested in securing Kaepernick’s CFL rights in case the quarterback decides he wants to play in Canada.

“There’s been no conversation about Colin coming here,” Reed said, according to PFT. “It was just to let them know we had his rights and if there was anything they were interested in to get back to us.”
