Report: FIFA asked to expand World Cup to 48 teams in 2022

FIFA has been asked by the governing body of South American soccer to expand the World Cup to 48 teams for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Associated Press reported Thursday.

Currently, the number of teams able to qualify for the World Cup stands at 32.
