Blessed Trinity needed to win one of its last two games just to make the playoffs in 6-AAA, one of the state’s toughest regions.
The Titans got that and more last week with a 22-21 upset of defending region champion St. Pius. Instead of playing for its playoff life Friday, Blessed Trinity (6-3, 4-1) can win the region title with a victory over Cedar Grove (6-3, 3-2).
Blessed Trinity is back in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution rankings this week, taking St. Pius’ place at No. 10. Blessed Trinity is essentially tied with No. 8 Woodward Academy (8-2, 5-1) for the region lead but won the head-to-head meeting.
The Blessed Trinity-Cedar Grove game will be one of several Friday that will determine region champions in the final week of the regular season.
Others include No. 1 Colquitt County at No. 7 Camden County in 1-AAAAAA, No. 1 Tucker at Mays in 6-AAAAA, No. 6 Burke County at No. 7 Wayne County in AAAA and No. 2 Lovett at No. 3 Greater Atlanta Christian in 6-AA, No. 10 Calvary Day at No. 4 Johnson County in 3-A and No. 1 Eagle’s Landing Christain at No. 9 Landmark Christian in 5-A.
Other new teams in the rankings this week are Peachtree Ridge for North Cobb (AAAAAA), Warner Robins and South Paulding for Stephenson and Allatoona (AAAAA), Stockbridge and Westover for Mary Persons and Cedartown (AAAA), and Irwin County and Calvary Day for Marion County and Darlington in A.
