8 facts about Atlanta United signing Otoo

June 2, 2016

One of the more interesting aspects of the globalization of sports is sometimes a team will sign a player and it can be extremely difficult, even in this wired age, to find out anything about the person.

This was the case with Atlanta United's signing of Jeffrey Otoo. The news that the team had signed the player was revealed when his salary was included in the union's recent list of salaries in MLS more than two weeks ago. Atlanta United declined to comment on the signing at the time.

So, that begin a long search for any information about the Otoo.

I knew he was from Ghana. I knew he played for Charity Stars.

But that was it.

When the signing was confirmed by the club on Wednesday, a few more details were learned: Otoo is 18. He is a left-footed forward.

Wanting more info, I began researching Charity Stars.

I learned by seeing photo on its facebook page that Atlanta United President Darren Eales recently traveled to Ghana, where the team is located in the city of Accra.

The team’s general manager, Nana Kwame Minimsaah, who is also Otoo’s manager, was kind enough to answer a few emailed questions about Atlanta United’s newest player.
