Olympian Amy Begley was named the first coach in the history of the Atlanta Track Club on Monday.

Begley, 36, made the U.S. Olympic team in 2008 in the 10,000 meters. At the Atlanta Track Club, she will be tasked with developing centralized training programs to help the more than 20,000 members, as well as help to develop one male and one female athlete qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The ATC announced earlier this month in conjunction with its partnership with Mizuno that it hoped to hire a coach by the end of the year.

Begley was a 15-time All-American and two-time NCAA national champ at Arkansas.

She was recently the cross country coach and assistant women’s track and field coach at Connecticut. Two Huskies qualified for the NCAA cross-country championships under Begley’s guidance, which was a first for the school.

Begley will begin her duties with the ATC on Dec. 1.
