There are nearly 38,000 signatures on an online petition to prevent former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick from retiring as a Falcon.

The Care2 petition is in response to Vick's comments back in May on 92.9 The Game when Vick revealed he wanted to sign a one-day deal and retire as a Falcon. Vick later clarified had not yet discussed the possibility with the Falcons at that point.

“This is unacceptable and needs to be stopped,” the petition reads. “So many animals suffered because of his actions. We ask the NFL and the Falcons to reject efforts to rehabilitate Vick's legacy and career. Those dogs had no voice when he and his ring were destroying animals. We need the people to be their voice now - please help stop this.”

After playing with the Falcons from 2001-2006, the Falcons released Vick in 2009. Vick served an 18 month prison sentence on dogfighting charges.
