Georgia Tech wide receiver Micheal Summers, out with an unspecified injury suffered last week, is expected to return to practice Friday, coach Paul Johnson said Tuesday. In his stead, Corey Dennis is working with the No. 1 offense alongside DeAndre Smelter. Wide receiver Darren Waller is on the scout team as he is suspended for the first two games of the season for a violation of team rules. Dennis “just knows the offense,” Johnson said. “He’s consistent.” … Several preferred walk-ons joined the team for practice Monday, the first day of class. Coaches conducted a tryout for uninvited walk-ons Tuesday. … Former athletic director Homer Rice attended Tuesday’s practice.
