The NFL announced it created committee focused on promoting social and racial justice initiatives Tuesday that is comprised of owners and players.
League commissioner Roger Goodell said the dialogue between players earlier this season is to credit for Tuesday’s announcement, which he said was just a start.
"We feel that we are going to make significant progress as we have more meetings, as we get more focused on our efforts, it's going to actually come to life," Goodell said. "And frankly, we will get better as the days go by."
Goodell said the committee will focus on improving community and police relations, improving the criminal justice system, economic development and education.
Owners on the committee include Cardinals’ Michael Bidwill, Falcons’ Arthur Blank, Jaguars’ Shahid Khan, Browns’ Jimmy Haslam and Dolphins’ Stephen Ross while current players include Eagles’ Chris Long, Redskins’ Josh Norman and Bills Kelvin Beachum. Former players include Aeneas Williams and Anquan Boldin.
The league also announced Tuesday it is creating a campaign entitled "”Let's Listen Together” which will include digital content and commercials that show players dedicating time to improving social justice and equality issues.
