More than 1 million households in the Atlanta TV market watched Alabama defeat Georgia in college football’s national championship game Monday night.

The game posted a 47.8 rating in the Atlanta market, meaning 47.8 percent of the market’s 2.41 million TV homes -- or about 1.15 million homes -- watched on average.

It was the highest rating ever in the Atlanta market for a college football game on ESPN, according to the network.

Still, the rating wasn’t as high here as in the Birmingham, Ala., market, which posted a 57.6 rating for the game.
