Despite an offense that ranks seventh in the country with 567 yards per game, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel knows not to be satisfied. Not with the SEC portion of the schedule just around the corner. “The good news is we’re getting better,” Pinkel told the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune. “The best news is we’re not even close to as good as we can be. I really believe that.” The team’s 21 points in the final quarter against Arkansas State on Saturday helped it finish its nonconference schedule with a 4-0 record, playing its remaining eight games in the SEC where it went 2-6 in its inaugural season a year ago. The win also gave Pinkel his 94th at Missouri in 13 seasons, moving him to second all-time in school history (Don Faurot-101).
Florida: Heading into Saturday night’s game against host Kentucky, the Gators were limiting opponents to 55.3 rushing yards a game, which is tops in the nation. Sophomore linebacker Antonio Morrison, who was suspended for the season opener against Toledo, leads the team with 13 tackles.
Georgia: Saturday’s game was the first meeting against LSU since the 2011 SEC championship game, when LSU defeated Georgia 42-10. Before Saturday’s game, their last regular-season matchup came in 2009, when LSU knocked off the Bulldogs 20-13 at Sanford Stadium. … Georgia is just the fourth team in the BCS era (since 1998) to play three Top 10 teams in its first four games.
Kentucky: Javess Blue didn’t join the Wildcats until early August after transferring from the junior college ranks, but he has been one of the bright spots since then. He leads the team with 15 receptions for 197 yards and an 88-yard touchdown, before Saturday night’s game against Florida.
South Carolina: Safety Brison Williams was initially ejected for a targeting foul on UCF receiver Jeff Godfrey in the second quarter, but the ejection was reversed after referees watched the replay. Williams actually hit Godfrey in the shoulder, not the head.
Tennessee: The Volunteers improved to 9-0 all-time against Sun Belt teams. … Tennessee, which came into the game leading the SEC in forced turnovers, added three more to its total on picks by Randolph, LaDarrell McNeil and Brent Brewer.
Vanderbilt: With Saturday’s 52-24 win over UAB, the Commodores have won seven consecutive games against non-SEC opponents. They will play their next six games against conference foes.
