Former League MVP and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has been named the seventh-best quarterback in the NFL by Sporting News.

Ryan, 33, was ranked behind Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Carson Wentz and Ben Roethlisberger respectively.

Last season, as reigning MVP, Ryan threw for 4,095 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and earned a passer rating of 91.4.

“Ryan’s slide after his MVP season was tied to his losing offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, as the QB’s numbers closer resembled the disappointing results of 2015,” Sporting News’ rationale read. “But Ryan still lived up to the ‘Matty Ice’ nickname with clutch play to keep the Falcons in the playoffs. His floor remains high, and he will be in for a rebound season.”
