Former Georgia coach Mark Richt reached out to his former running back Sony Michel congratulating him on being drafted by the New England Patriots Thursday night.
Michel was drafted with the 31st overall pick, the Patriots’ second first round pick after selecting former Georgia offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn at No. 23.
“Congratulations to Sony Michel!” Richt wrote. “The newest New England Patriot!”
In four seasons at Georgia, Michel rushed for 3,613 yards and 33 touchdowns and caught for 621 yards and six touchdowns.
Richt coached Michel in 2014 and 2015 before current Georgia coach Kirby Smart was hired after the 2015 season.
