The Detroit Lions invited former wide receiver Calvin Johnson to attend the team’s training camp in August, according to Lions president Ron Wood.

On Detroit’s WJR Radio on Monday, Wood revealed that after exchanging several “cordial” and “professional” text messages with Johnson, the Lions extended a training camp invitation to the All-Pro receiver.

"I did invite him out to training camp," Wood said on WJR. "We'll see if he does that. Hopefully, he shows up and he's a great player. We want to have him in the tent and not outside the tent."

A former Georgia Tech receiver, Johnson is the Lions all-time franchise's leader in catches, receiving touchdowns and receiving yards. In his nine-year NFL career, Johnson recorded 11,619 receiving yards and 83 touchdowns.

Since his retirement in March 2016, Johnson has spoken out about how he was treated by the Lions on his way out. ESPN reported the Lions forced Johnson to pay over $1 million of his remaining protracted signing bonus upon his retirement.
