The Thrashers re-signed defenseman Noah Welch on Wednesday.
Welch, 27, missed most of the last season recovering from surgery on the patella tendon in his right knee. He returned to play 37 regular season and 14 playoff games with the Thrashers AHL affiliate in Chicago. He signed a two-way contract that will pay him $550,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the minors.
Welch, 6 feet 4 and 220 pounds, appeared in 73 NHL games with Pittsburgh, Florida and Tampa Bay between 2005-09. He had nine points (four goals, five assists) last season.
Thrashers general manager Rick Dudley and head coach Craig Ramsay are also talking to AHL Rockford coach Bill Peters about an assistant coach position. Peters was a candidate for the team's head coach position.
