The Thrashers re-signed defenseman Boris Valabik to a multi-year contract Tuesday. The two-year deal will pay Valabik, a restricted free agent, $725,000 next season and $800,000 in 2010-11, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Valabik, 23, had five assists in 50 games for the Thrashers last season. Three of the assists came in a three-game stretch in December. He played seven games for the Thrashers in 2007-08.

Valabik, 6-foot-7, 240 pounds, has played 119 games for the Thrashers’ AHL affiliate in Chicago. He was part of the team’s Calder Cup championship in 2008.

Valabik represented Slovakia in the 2009 World Championships. He was the 10th overall pick of the Thrashers in 2004.
